Business

Stem Cell Sciences KK is committed to developing the technologies related to the process and purification of stem cell (somatic and embryonic), aiming at supply of functional and safety cells to clinic. In addition, we also provide products and services based on the technologies.

Cell-Based Therapy

Research and development of the insulin producing pancreatic beta cells from stem cell.
Research and development of the insulin producing pancreatic beta cells from stem cell.Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. There are 16.2 milion people in Japan who are and are likely to be diagnosed as diabetes. SCSKK is now developing the technologies to process the stem cell-derived pancreatic beta cells without any gene-manipulation. The technologies include isolation and purification of not only pancreatic beta cells but also precursor and stem cells based on the specific cell surface markers. The technologies will deliver benefit to clinical treatment of diabetes as a cell product

Research and development of the functional therapeutic cells from hMADS cell.
Research and development of the functional therapeutic cells from hMADS cell.Human multipotent adipose-derived stem (hMADS) cell line is first established by Dr. Christian Dani's groups in University of Nice, France. The cells are grown to adipocyte, osteoblast and myoblast, and possess immuno-privilege features. SCSKK have obtained the license on the use of the hMADS cells for therapy and is committed to developing the processing technologies of the hMADS cell. We started the research and development concerning the cell manufacturing that process under GMP facilities, and will deliver the cells for the treatment of intractable muscular diseases such as muscular dystrophy.

Development of autologous myoblast transplantation therapy for treatment of stress urinary incontinence.
Development of autologous myoblast transplantation therapy for treatment of stress urinary incontinence.Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is characterized by a leakage of urine which occurs without bladder constriction on increment of abdominal pressure from coughing, sneezing, laughing or exercise. SCSKK plans to provide new therapeutic option, autologous myoblast transplantation, for treatment of SUI which is caused by intrinsic urethral sphincter deficiency. With regards to technology on therapeutic myoblasts manufacturing, i.e. isolation, culture and quality control, SCSKK has obtained the license from Celogos, which is carrying out phase II clinical trial in France. Studies are underway for the clinical trails of the therapy in Japan

Product
SCSKK has developed non-serum medium for mouse ES cell culture (‘CultiCell medium for ES cells’) and Alzheimer model cells that differentiated from human amyloid precursor protein (APP) gene-integrated mouse ES cells (‘AppliCell hAPPsw Neuron’).

Contract/Sponsored Research
SCSKK provides the services for processing engineered functional cells. The cells could be useful for drug discovery such as High-throughput and High-contents Screening.
